If You Have To Hurt Them, It Isn’t Entertainment

It is truly sad that we still treat the non-human members of our animal kingdom as if they have no feelings, thoughts, or rights.

I saw two very disturbing videos today.  The first one showed animal trainer Michael Hackenberger whipping a young tiger.  The videos shows the tiger rolling on the ground and cringing, trying to get away from Hackenberger, who later tried to excuse this by claiming that the whip only hit the tiger once.  As if that makes it better.  Hitting that animal with a whip even once is abuse; snapping the whip nearby is torture.  Hackenberger is a well-known Hollywood trainer and I think now we know why the animals he works with behave so well.  It is because he has literally beaten them into submission.

The other video was footage of the largest snake ever captured, who recently died after laying a single egg.  It shows the workers who found it in Malaysia manhandling the snake, taping her mouth shut, and one worker even kicks her.  Then she was passed around for photo-ops before being carted off to a zoo.  After this treatment, and considering the fact that she had lived free up until then, my guess is she died of a broken heart.
