I am against the death penalty, but I feel like anyone who abuses and neglects children should have the book thrown at them. Life in prison, period. No parole, no probation. It is ridiculous that in this country people who simply have a little marijuana in their possession spend longer in prison than someone who abuses a child.
This month I honor the memory of Elaina Jade Steinfurth. Her crime? Crying for attention. Her punishment? Being thrown, hitting a bed, and then hitting a wall. This 18 month old baby was murdered by her mother because all she wanted was her mother’s love. Her mother then put her corpse in a cardboard box and reported Elaina missing. When the body was found and Angela-Elaina’s mother/killer-was in jail, she had the audacity to ask to attend the child’s funeral, a request the judge denied.
Angela received a sentence of 18 years, which means she will still be able to live her life once her sentence is over. Angela’s boyfriend Steven King received a life sentence, but he too will still be alive. What about Elaina? Robbed of her future for crying. There is no way to punish a crime like that.
